Class of 1971 Scholarship Fund-- a Major Class Project

The Class of 1971 Endowed Scholarship Fund continues to excel in supporting students from across the globe, adding its 11th endowed scholar at the beginning of the year . Named in honor of internationalists John Sloan Dickey and John Rassias, the fund supports students from diverse countries, including Ukraine, Nicaragua, Germany, Turkey and Brazil, as well as the US. Four of our students graduated with honors and different awards in June 2025. Several have been avid speakers at our Homecoming and other 1971 functions. Each $100,000 our classmates contribute endows an additional scholar, and over $1,000,000.00 has been raised to date in this ongoing class initiative.

We have set a goal of raising an additional $250,000 as our 55th reunion legacy gift to Dartmouth, which will allow us to support 3 more students. As of 2/9/2026 we have received U$175,000 in pledges from four classmates.

Tuna Akmehmet ’26 from Çankaya, Turkey; tuna.akmehmet.26@dartmouth.edu graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude with honors in Economics and Mathematical Data Science. Tuna received the Tucker Center Ministry Leadership Award and the Economics Department Outstanding Achievement Award.
