The Posting System

One of the reasons we chose to make this our official class website, is that classmates can post and interact with each other as they would on Facebook, but without the concerns about your information being monetized--for those who have those concerns.  The old website provided by the college, has no interactive capabilities; the content is read only for all but the site administrators.  The static nature of the college provided class website doesn't allow us to 'talk' to each other.

Multiple Conversations are Possible

We still maintain our class Facebook group for those who are comfortable using it, but we encourage everyone to try using the chat function on this website.  It has more granularity than our Facebook group, because it allows multiple specialized interest conversation threads to proceed without everyone in the class having to see and participate.  If you want to have a conversation with just your fraternity brothers, or the classmates who were on the athletic team with you, that's easy to do on this site.  At the end of each week, an email goes out to every classmate with links to what is new each week.  Everyone in the class will get links to new Class News and Class Chat posts and to Memorials to fallen classmates.  And if you are a member of an 'affinity' group like your fraternity, you will get links to any new posts in those groups.  But you will not get links to posts for groups you are not a member of.  So if you want to join the Dartmouth quarterly book club discussion group, you can do that.  But if you are not interested, you will not get notices about posts in that group.

Filtering Your News Feed

You can filter your news and chat feed.  To the right of the "Add a message... "vbox above the news feed window you will see the word Filter with the updown carats to indicate that it is dropdown list.  Click on the word Filter and choose the category of news/chats you want to see.  This will filter the list to your selection.  Just click on the Home button at the left of the menu bar to undo the filter and restore the feed to all items.  This is useful if you just want to see the Memorials to fallen classmates for example.  You can also click on the Memorials button to the right at any point or the Class News or Class Chat buttons to accomplish the same thing.

The chat groups and some news and memorial items, if the website admin chooses to allow it, have a reply function.  So you can either post a new comment or reply to a previous one.  Let's see how posting and replying works.
